3 Refrigeration Tips To Keep Your Food Cold And Your Fridge Running

Your fridge is probably not something you spend a ton of time thinking about, but it is one of the most important appliances in your home. A non-working fridge can quickly limit your options for dinner, not to mention spoil any food you have already purchased. If you want to keep your fridge running without any issues, here are a few tips that might help.

1. Fridges Need Cleaning Too

You probably wipe down your countertops or clean other parts of your kitchen on a regular basis. A lot of homeowners though tend to overlook the fridge, simply because no one thinks about it except for when you are opening it up to get some food or a drink. If you don't keep your fridge clean, it might run less efficiently. Once a month, unplug your fridge, take off the coil cover, and give the coils a cleaning. Then, open the fridge itself, remove any food, and wipe down every shelf. Keep a box of baking soda in the fridge can help combat food odor if it becomes a problem.

2. Be Strategic About Food Placement

Not every spot in your fridge is equal when it comes to how cool it keeps your food. For example, you don't want to put easily perishable items on the door as this area can sometimes fluctuate in temperature, especially if you are opening and closing the fridge a lot. If you have raw meat or anything else that might potentially drip, always put it on the bottom shelf to avoid contamination of other items below. Before every grocery store trip, get into the habit of moving any aging items in the back to the front and put your new items from the grocery in the back, so you don't let food spoil and go to waste.

3. Get a Regular Inspection

You wouldn't let your car go more than a year without a professional inspection, so why should you do that with your fridge or other household appliances? Hire a professional appliance repair service to come out to your home at least once a year. This service can start with your fridge but can also check other common household appliances like your dishwasher or washer and dryer.

Get into the habit of cleaning your fridge on a regular basis and be smart about where in the fridge your are positioning certain foods. If you notice any problems with your fridge, contact an appliance or refrigeration repair service today.
